ZAMBEZI  SCHOOLBOOK  PROJECT

One Book's Journey

Maxine in Denver has a book she loves so much that she has read it many times.  Now she wants a child in Africa who has no book to enjoy her favorite book.   So Maxine and her classmates organize a book drive at their school.
Maxine and her classmates work hard and collect one thousand gently used books and one dollar for each book from their schoolmates and all around their community and mail them to Atlanta where her grandparents pack them along with many other books for the long sea voyage to Africa.
When the sea container arrives by ship in South Africa it then travels overland by truck to Botswana where Maxine's grandparents collect her book along with the one thousand other books and carry them in their truck to Zimbabwe.  After an adventurous journey the books are presented to Gache Gache Community School on the shores of Lake Kariba.
